SPOTLIGHT SPRING 2019:

Spotlight Creative Arts Academy is excited to launch OUR 12th YEAR, as well as the 4th year of our Creative Arts Academy! Take a look at our 2018 - 2019 Spotlight Schedule HERE.

SPOTLIGHT CREATIVE ARTS ACADEMY is excited to announce our Spring 2019 production of…

Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. is a fantastic adaptation of this adventurous story of transformation. This production features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with the new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

Join us for this “tale as old as time”, Beauty and the Beast Jr.

Ticket information coming soon! Our next session will be our Summer Camp, and then our Fall Session. CLICK HERE to be added to our email list for upcoming session and registration information.

    • Discounted registration for Christmas production session (if registered in the fall)
    • Free registration for our Audition Workshop
    • Priority for our Spring Production audition time slots (audition time slots do fill up each year, last spring we had about 40 students on a waiting list for an audition time)
    • Discounted registration for spring production
    • Priority invites to participate in additional acting (stage, video, film), singing and worship opportunities that come up throughout the year.

Academy classes will begin the week of 1/21 on Monday and/or Thursday evenings, 1 hour each (schedule may be updated based on enrollment). Classes will be small groups and focused training for developing students’ personal technique and skills. Space is limited and regular attendance is critical. Please consider your schedule carefully before committing to the 8-week session. Students should not miss more than 1 class. Please review attached Academy Absence policy/request form.

  • Audition Workshop for grades 2nd – 12th. Saturday, 1/5/19 from 1pm – 4pm. Attendance is HIGHLY encouraged for both new and returning Spotlight students who wish to be considered for participation in the spring musical, as this will both explain what we are looking for in their audition and will also allow directors to have additional time to observe students, more than a brief audition allows. This workshop will help students develop audition techniques, offer vocal/acting coaching, and choreography. Registration for the Audition Workshop is $50 for non-academy students and FREE for Academy Students. Students must be pre-registered to attend; we will not be able to accommodate walk-up registrations.

  • Auditions for "Beauty and the Beast" (for students in 2nd – 12th grades) as well as other singing, worship, acting and improv opportunities. Monday and Tuesday, 1/7 & 1/8 from 5pm – 9pm (callbacks for some students will be Saturday, 1/12 from 12:30pm – 4:30pm). When you are signing up for an audition time, please review the attached audition forms/information and production details before auditioning. You will receive a confirmation email with the link to the audition sign-ups automatically once you enroll in Spotlight Academy and/or the Audition Workshop. Priority sign-ups for audition times will be given to students enrolled in Spotlight Academy and the Audition Workshop. Any student wishing to audition, must be signed up for an audition time, we cannot fit walk-ups in the schedule, and cannot take any additional students if there are students on the waiting list. Any questions, please email spotlight@calvarycc.org.

Last year we had over 140 students audition for our spring musical. We typically have a Principal cast, an Ensemble cast and a Chorus cast with the latter being involved in the large numbers (and requiring less rehearsal time). If your student would like to be in Chorus and not audition for lead/ensemble roles please let us know and the directors will consider them for Chorus. They should still attend the audition workshop for the directors to observe them. CLICK HERE if your student would like to be considered for Chorus instead of auditioning.

  • We are looking to expand our production teams for "Beauty and the Beast", as well as going forward as Spotlight grows our Creative Arts Academy. We are looking to offer additional opportunities for students to receive training and develop drama and worship teams, instrumental training, video and tv/film opportunities, technical training, etc. If you are involved (or know someone who is) with any aspect of creative arts either by profession or hobby, we would love to connect with you. We are looking for (but not limited to) vocal & acting coaches, choreography instructors/dancers, music producers, script writers, costumers, hair/make-up artists, set designers/builders, school show coordinator, marketing support, cast support/events, student discipleship, ministry outreach/serve opportunities, volunteer coordination, production assistant and other creative/technical/performing arts gifts.
